What do such disparate artists Max Ernst, Eric Fischl and Linda Stein have in common? First is their diverse connection to our local area. Second is their depiction of the figure....
Linda Stein's sculpture in the "Broadway Windows" display presents another figurative view. This time we must identify the figure , although Ms. Stein's configurations strongly suggest knights' bodies. Moreover, we must also imagine their "heads," an appropriate process considering that the pieces are in storefront windows.
Such a presentation is not only one of reflection, but also one of illusion. In fact, this illusion is a most pertinent element: seeing what might not be there. We know that the reflections of passersby are only temporary images. Thus, the sculptures seem like "ghosts" as well where a penchant for the past connects to the present SoHo scene.
Ms. Stein's sculptures are at Broadway and East 10th Street
