The concept of protection has permeated Linda Stein's sculpture for the last three decades, culminating in "Knights," her sculptural series of body as armor. At the National Association of Women Artists, on 80 Fifth Avenue at 14th Street, where the exhibit "Strong Suit: Armor as Second Skin" opened yesterday, Ms. Stein will be honored at a reception on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

In her art, Ms. Stein, who lives in East Hampton and TriBeCa, references icons from spiritual and pop culture, especially the superhero Wonder Woman from World War II comics, who never killed in her pursuit of justice. The sculptures, which are wearable, are a blend of everyday materials and word fragments made of wood, metal, and stone.

Earlier in the day, from noon to 3 p.m., the artist will give a keynote address at the 120th anniversary lunch of the association at the National Arts Club.

More information can be found at nawanet.org. The show can be seen through June 19.
