Elizabeth Sackler 926
This tapestry about Elizabeth Sackler builds upon images from various stages of Dr. Sackler's life, including when she was Miss Vermont in 1968, winning her place as a talented dancer, amongst her other attributes. I have always seen her as a maverick, like Wonder Woman, who became a defender of the downtrodden and protector of the repudiated and victimized. In 2009, I wrote about her in an article published in On the Issues Magazine and remember her words: "Coming of age in the 1960s, my life was centered in protests of the Civil Rights Movement. That I eluded arrest or worse was a relief to my parents, but it was during those years the social activism in my marrow was ignited and shaped my actions and activities for more than five decades.” I find admirable this woman of guts and grit.
